The cosiest Cornish eateries to keep you warm this autumn

Crisp walks in the countryside or by the beach, red wine by a roaring fire - autumn is here which makes now the perfect time to head to some of the most snug pubs, bars and restaurants in this windswept county. Lucky for you, we’ve shortlisted our favourite spots that combine fantastic Cornish food and cosy interiors. We’ll race you to the fire place.

The Old Mill Bistro, Wadebridge

When you want to combine the luxurious fine dining experience with a low-key, historical feel, this 16th century restaurant perfectly fits the bill.

This family-run bistro takes pride in turning local, high quality ingredients into homemade treats, such as sticky toffee pudding and smoked Cornish duck breast. Fancy an alfresco finale and facing the chillier evenings? You can opt for a digestif or dessert by the waterwheel or heated terrace.

The Barley Sheaf, Gorran Haven

Decorated in earthy heritage ones, with a Cornish slate floor and local artwork, this local inn is smart enough for all occasions whilst also being the perfect place to bring your four-legged friends.

Head chef, Tim Kendall, uses local fruit and veg to create crowd-pleasing classics - such as smoked mash and cured sausages - to sit alongside more adventurous dining such as spinach and ricotta ravioli with smoked paprika yoghurt and curried granola.

Star and Garter

This ancient pub in Falmouth not only excels in the cosiness factor but also is home to one of the best views. Panoramic windows wrap around the back wall revealing an unbeatable view of Flamouth’s historic harbour. Intimate booths by the window allow you to enjoy fresh fish, local reared meats and Knightor negronis while watching the boars putter by.

The Rising Sun, Truro

Take a five minute stroll from the centre of Truro and you’ll find the warming and welcoming environment of this foodie favourite. Creative menus take the best of nearby land and sea, crafting dishes such as Cornish scallops. Local pheasant breast and just-landed fish. We recommend to kick off the evening with an aperitif by the fire before you settle in for a delightful feast.

Ruby’s Bar, Padstow

Ruby’s Bar is another Rick Stein venture in Padstow and this charming and cosy bar offers a fantastic array of cocktails and curated spirits. Get yourself snug and enjoy an evening spent sampling their wide selection of boutique gins, local wines, craft beers and classic cocktails under the candlelight.
